Robbie Deans out, Ewen McKenzie in

Just days after the devastating 41-16 loss to the British and Irish Lions, it is being reported that Robbie Deans has been sacked by the Australian Rugby Union, with Ewen McKenzie set to be named as his replacement.

Reported to have cost the ARU $400,000 (he has been let go 6 months earlier than his contracted time) the loss to the Lions seems to finally have been the final straw.

All I can say to this, it’s about time!!

For a very long time I have been disillusioned with Robbie Deans being at the helm of the Wallabies. Last year when we were defeated for the second time by Scotland, the whispers started asking for Robbie be let go as coach.  I demanded that Robbie Deans must go but it fell on deaf ears and we went on to suffer losses by the All Blacks, Springboks and the Argentinians in The Rugby Championship.

Deans has had FIVE AND A HALF years to prove himself and our trophy cabinet is still mighty bare. One Tr-Nations victory, while awesome, was not enough!

With just 3 wins from 18 matches against the All Blacks and losses to the Lions, Samoa and Scotland, he has not been the right man for job for some time now.

I say bring on the era of McKenzie as coach, he’s just what the doctor ordered.
