Toulon star Jonny Wilkinson slumped off injured as Toulon pulled off a heart stopping 19-19 draw in their Top 14 match away at Stade Francais.
Pascal Pape’s 48th minute try looked like being the difference between the two sides in a tough-fought match. Wilkinson had scored two penalties before his replacement in the 24th minute, with Crowd favourite Matt Giteau and Benjamin Lapeyre each adding another for the visitors.
However, Julien Dupuy’s four penalties and conversion of Pape’s try put Stade into a 19-12 lead with the clock going into the red.
Toulon wouldn’t give up, and kept on coming at the home Team, and after an brilliant defense from Stade Francais span the ball out wide for Julien Janaudy to score in the corner, with Giteau’s outstanding conversion from the touchline ensuring a share of the spoils for the visitors.
Toulouse furthered their Top 14 lead with a 21-10 win over Agen at Stade Ernest-Wallon. A brace of tries from Yves Donguy were enough to give the Top 14 leaders a comfortable win.
And Toulouse’s breathing space at the top was increased when Bayonne held second-placed Clermont to a 22-22 draw. Sam Gerber’s try in the last minute gave the hosts a chance to hold with their high-flying rivals, while Benjamin Boyet nervelessly landed the conversion with the last kick of the game to secure the draw.
Castres worked hard for their 15-13 win at Brive, Montpellier won 30-26 at Bordeaux and Racing Metro wouldn’t let basement club Lyon move up the ladder, as they beat them 33-22 at Stade Matmut.
