Sam Carter joined the Brumbies in 2011 and made his debut against the Rebels that same year. Since then he has been an integral part of the Brumbies squad and has made his presence known throughout the 2012 season, I’m tipping ‘The Caboose’ makes Wallabies selection next year. Now Sam talks to me about all things rugby.
Name: Sam Carter
Nickname(s): Carts, The Caboose
Super Rugby Team: Brumbies
How/Why did you start playing rugby?
My dad played when I was young and it’s a big part of our family.
Who has been the greatest influence on your career?
Probably my dad. He played for the Wallabies up until the year I was born.
What has been the highlight of your career so far?
Making my Brumbies debut in 2011 against the Rebels.
What has been your biggest disappointment?
Losing the Shute Shield Grand Final last year against Eastwood. Nic White is a very annoying person.
Who is the toughest player you played against?
Tatafu Polota Nau.
What is your favourite stadium to play in?
Loftus is pretty impressive.
What are your thoughts on the Brumbies Super Rugby season so far?
It’s going well. We’re winning and no-one expected that from us at the start of this year. In saying that we haven’t won anything yet. There’s still a long way to the finals.
Which player has impressed you the most so far?
Jesse ‘Roff’ Mogg or Rod Holmes. They’ve both been good for us this year.
Which team has impressed you the most so far?
The Chiefs are setting the benchmark. They’ve always been a good side they’re just more consistent this year.
Who do you think are the team to beat this year?
Again the Chiefs or the Crusaders. Very hard to beat at home.
How has Twitter changed the way you interact with your fans?
It gives the fans a chance to see another side of me.
What advice would you give to kids who dream of playing professional rugby?
Make sure you enjoy your rugby. When I was younger I didn’t make a lot of the rep teams but I kept working hard and eventually earned a professional contract.
