Wallabies lose Ioane

Digby Ioane makes a break against the Springboks

Digby Ioane's injury woes continue

The Wallabies have been dealt a serious blow after Digby Ioane sustained a fracture to his right thumb in yesterday’s 32-6 victory over Italy.

Ioane, set to undergo surgery tomorrow in Auckland, will remain with the team in the hopes he can return by the Quarter Finals.

The injury occurred when Italy’s Mirco Bergamasco kicked Ioane as he was collecting a ball that had been grubbered behind the Australian line.

Ioane has been the in-form winger all season having played a crucial part in the Wallabies Tri-Nations victory and earlier in the year the Queensland Red’s Super Rugby title.  He has also been a big crowd pleaser with his dancing and after try celebrations.

The question remains now whether or not this will pave the way for Drew Mitchell’s return or whether Anthony Faingaa will keep his position at outside centre and Adam Ashley-Cooper shifted to the left wing.

We wish Digby a speedy recovery!
