How long have you been involved with rugby?
About three months in working terms, but have loved and followed the game since I was little.
What/who got you into rugby?
I’m from a small town here in South Africa where our schools are more into Rugby and Swimming than anything else. I’d go to school derbies as often as I could, but I’d say watching Bretyie (Paulse) got me into the game.
What’s your favourite part about working in rugby?
The amazing people I get to interview and interact with.
What has been your career highlight so far??
My interview with Juan Smith, captain of the Cheetahs for varistycup.co.za. He wanted to do the interview in Afrikaans I told him ‘in every boer (nickname for hard-core Afrikaaners) there’s a Dutch-Brit somewhere, I’d like to speak to that guy’. He laughed so much I couldn’t remember most questions I wanted to ask. Also my interview with Paulse was quite special – I grew up idolising this guy and I had to pinch myself during our interview.
Who has been the greatest influence on your career?
Howie Khan. He gave me my first ‘real rugby’ gig.
What do you feel is the biggest issue in the game right now?
What is the biggest problem you encounter being a female working in rugby?
Having to prove yourself in every corner.
What tips would you give to women who want to work in rugby?
Just do it!
Where would you like to see the game in 10 years?
I’m most happy with the game itself as it is, just need to do something with the officials, they are killing the game for most.
Any final words?
May the Springboks retain the title. Up the Bokke!
