All Blacks and Crusaders captain Richie McCaw will miss up to six weeks of the Super 15 rugby season after sustaining a stress fracture of his right foot last week.

After visiting a foot and ankle surgeon in Christchurch today, the openside flanker has been booked into surgery to insert a small screw into the bone.

The stress fracture in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot was sustained after a yo-yo running test at Rugby Park in Christchurch.

This will surely be a blow to the start of the Crusaders 2011 Super Rugby campaign.
