Wallabies inside back Matt Giteau has today ended weeks of speculation after he signed an 18 month deal with French Top 14 club Toulon.
The 28-year-old will leave Australia following the World Cup in November, despite being contracted to the Australian Rugby Union until December 31.
Giteau’s decision has come just days after several leading Australian players including Adam Ashley-Cooper, Stephen Moore and Berrick Barnes recently rejected lucrative overseas deals in favour of playing on home soil.
Giteau will captain the Brumbies Super 15 Rugby season opener against the Chiefs in Canberra on Saturday night.
Update: The man himself just wrote the following message on Twitter.
“Signed with Toulon for 18 month deal after world cup! Love the brumbies and wanna make this yr as enjoyable as I can. Exciting times!!”
What do you think of Giteau’s decision?
